The Secret Behind the Potato Hack

1. Anti-Fogging Windows:

One of the most practical reasons to keep a potato in your car is its ability to help clear fogged-up windows. When you’re driving, especially in cold or humid conditions, your windows can fog up quickly, obstructing your view and making it dangerous to drive.

The natural starch in potatoes can help with this issue. If you cut a potato in half and rub it over the inside of your car windows, the starch from the potato creates a thin film that prevents condensation from forming on the glass. This temporary solution can improve visibility and make your drive much safer, especially when you’re in a pinch and can’t immediately find a towel or cleaning cloth.

2. Preventing Car Battery Corrosion:

In colder climates, potatoes are known to be a great source of potassium, which can be used to clean off car battery terminals. Simply slice a potato and rub the inside of the battery terminals. The potato will help break down the corrosion, improving the contact between the battery and the cables, and potentially saving you from a dead battery situation.

In some emergency cases, this quick potato hack could be enough to give your car battery a boost to get you back on the road.

3. Emergency Food Source:

While this is more of a last-resort scenario, a potato can serve as an emergency food source in a situation where you’re stranded or stuck in your car for an extended period of time. Potatoes are a hardy vegetable and can last for several days without spoiling. If you’re in a bind, eating a potato (cooked, if possible) can provide you with some basic nourishment and energy until help arrives or until you’re able to find more substantial food.

4. Fire Starting Aid:

In extreme situations, such as if you’re stranded in the wilderness or need to create a fire for warmth, potatoes can even help with starting a fire. You can slice a potato, dry it, and use it in combination with other fire-starting materials. The starch in the potato can help catch fire and sustain it for a brief time, which could be a life-saving aid for building a fire in an emergency survival situation.
