Rosemary Tea: A Simple Herbal Drink to Enjoy at Home
Rosemary is much more than a fragrant herb used to season roasted potatoes, vegetables, meat, and fish. For centuries, this aromatic plant has also been enjoyed in traditional herbal preparations, including simple herbal teas.
A warm cup of rosemary tea has a distinctive herbal aroma and slightly earthy flavor. It can be enjoyed on its own or combined with ingredients such as lemon, honey, ginger, or cinnamon for a more pleasant and comforting drink.
While rosemary tea should not be considered a cure for medical conditions, it can be a flavorful addition to a balanced lifestyle. Rosemary naturally contains plant compounds with antioxidant properties, which is one reason the herb continues to attract interest in traditional wellness practices.
Ingredients
- 2–3 fresh rosemary sprigs, thoroughly washed
- 2 cups (500 ml) water
- 1 teaspoon honey, optional
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, optional
If you are using dried rosemary, approximately 1 teaspoon is enough for two cups of water. Fresh rosemary generally produces a brighter and more aromatic flavor.
Instructions
- Begin by bringing the water to a gentle boil in a small saucepan or kettle.
- Add the fresh rosemary sprigs to the hot water. If using dried rosemary, place it in a tea infuser if possible.
- Reduce the heat and allow the rosemary to simmer gently for approximately 5–10 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the tea to steep for another 5 minutes. This gives the aromatic compounds time to infuse into the water.
- Carefully strain the tea into a cup to remove the rosemary leaves and small pieces.
- Allow it to cool slightly before drinking.
- Add honey if you prefer a sweeter flavor and stir until dissolved.
- Add a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice for a bright, slightly tangy finish.
You can enjoy rosemary tea warm, particularly as a relaxing drink during cooler weather, or allow it to cool and serve it over ice for a refreshing summer beverage.
